Spinal Cord Injury Services

The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) offers spinal cord injury (SCI) rehabilitation services on an inpatient, outpatient and day rehabilitation basis and accommodates patients who are:

  • Paraplegic: paralysis of the lower half of the body including the partial or total loss of function of both legs
  • Tetraplegic (Quadriplegic): paralysis of the body involving partial or total loss of function in both arms and legs
  • Ventilator-dependent: requiring the aid of specialized breathing apparatus for purposes of breathing—as a secondary condition of spinal cord injury

RIC Provides a Wide Range of Services

Part of the rehabilitation journey of someone who has experienced a spinal cord injury includes getting back to daily life and activities. Setting goals and also finding appropriate avenues of support is crucial to the rehabilitation journey.

How We Help Spine & Sports Injuries

The Spine and Sports Rehabilitation Center (SSRC) is the outpatient facilities of RIC, located downtown Chicago. The care offered at the center has a strong emphasis on rehabilitation of spine and sports medicine.

RIC Has Recently Been Named a Model Spinal Cord Injury Center

The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (opens in new window), U.S. Department of Education has funded 14 Model Spinal Cord Injury System Centers (opens new window) throughout the United States. These centers serve as models for the treatment and rehabilitation of spinal cord injury.
