About The Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz Sports Program
The Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz Sports Program at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) was established in 1982 with a gift from the Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz family. Since that time, the Wirtz family's gift (now Chicago Blackhawk Charities [opens in new window] ) along with funding from RIC's Women's Board, RIC's Associate Board, Cubs Care Foundation (opens in new window), and various other philanthropic efforts, have provided the resources for a year-round, cross-disability sports and recreation program.
Originally located on the first floor of RIC, the Wirtz Sports Program moved to RIC's Helen M. Galvin Health and Fitness Center in 1996 where it continues to expand. The Wirtz Sports Program currently offers a variety of different competitive sports and recreational activities free of charge to all participants.
