The qualities that define an individual - memory, personality, behavior, physical abilities and mental skills - are also the qualities that help to define the goals of rehabilitation for people with brain injuries. With so much at stake, it is important for you to find a care provider with a depth of experience and comprehensive services to ensure that you or a family member achieve the best life possible.
A brain injury may be caused by either a traumatic or non-traumatic event, resulting in a change in neuronal activity in the brain that ultimately affects the way brain cells function.

Living with a Disability: After a Traumatic Brain Injury
Because of the impact that brain injury has on family dynamics, our team provides consultation and counseling at every stage of recovery. Family members have access to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's LIFE Center (opens in new window) available at RIC's flagship hospital on Superior Street and at Alexian Rehabilitation Hospital in Elk Grove Village. The LIFE Center houses a user-friendly interactive library, one-on-one education for caregivers and brain injury support groups.
