Prosthetic and Orthotic Technology

Our ABC Certified and Illinois Licensed Prosthetists and Orthotists have access to all prosthetic and orthotic technology and products from all prosthetic and orthotic manufacturers.

Our staff is dedicated to utilizing the most appropriate materials, technology and fitting techniques for each individual. Your prosthetist or orthotist will recommend a specific design for your prosthesis or orthosis based on a thorough evaluation of your condition, strength, range of motion, activity level and lifestyle.  When there are multiple designs that are medically appropriate, your prosthetist or orthotist will discuss these choices with you. If you are interested in a particular product, our staff will be happy to discuss its appropriateness, advantages and disadvantages for your case.

Our clinical staff holds certification to fit several products that require special training, with yearly continuing education requirements ensuring that we are well-versed in many types of technology and techniques in the prosthetics and orthotics field.  RIC’s physical and occupational therapists also attend courses to learn training techniques for individuals with these specialized devices.

Some general categories of specialized devices that require certification:

  • Ambulation training orthoses
  • Computerized prosthetic knees
  • Vacuum assisted suction suspension for lower limb prostheses
  • Myoelectric upper limb prostheses
