Philosophy

To pursue excellence, we are committed to: providing an atmosphere that encourages inquiring minds, stresses compassion and recognizes the uniqueness of each individual; bonding individual accomplishments with consensus and teamwork; maintaining a family-like environment; and assuring safe and pleasant facilities. In our pursuit of excellence, we intend to maintain exemplary programs in patient care, education and research that can be followed by others. In fulfilling our mission, the following beliefs will guide our relationships with our patients, our people and the community.

We believe excellence in patient care requires that:

  • comprehensive patient care address the medical, physical, psychological, social, spiritual, vocational and economic aspects of patients and their families,
  • a continuum of accessible services be provided at reasonable rates,
  • patients and families be involved in their care and be provided with hope, acceptance and mastery of their lives.

We believe in excellence in research and education and that:

  • research can facilitate improved quality of life, greater achievement by people with disabilities and improve effectiveness and efficiency in the care, cure and prevention of disability,
  • education programs can improve life for people with disabilities by increasing the quality, quantity and effectiveness of academic and clinical rehabilitation professionals,
  • public education, aimed at the prevention of disabling injuries and greater understanding of the needs, capabilities and legal rights of people with disabilities, should be conducted.

We believe in development of our people and that:

  • dedicated, competent and enthusiastic people are our most valuable resource,
  • individuals should be allowed to develop to the maximum use of their abilities, treated fairly and rewarded consistent with performance.

We believe in an effective team that:

  • builds our assets, promotes growth and enhances organizational performance through strategic management,
  • maintains a partnership with the community to respond to community needs, assists in coordinating the delivery of services and promotes the general well being of people with disabilities,
  • fosters creativity, flexibility and innovation for improved productivity through the effective and efficient use of resources,
  • recognizes and appreciates the efforts of our boards, volunteers, contributors and friends who are important partners on the rehabilitation team.
